Parashat Shoftim, Elul, and the Work of Self-Judgment
As we enter Elul with Parashat Shoftim, the Torah calls us to create our own spiritual “cities of refuge.” Just as judges and officers safeguard society, we must appoint inner judges and guards over our eyes, ears, mouth, and heart. Elul is our time to reflect, move our borders forward, and crown Hashem as King in preparation for Rosh Hashanah.
